Tucked away in the northeastern pocket of Italy, the Delle Venezie DOC in Friuli-Venezia Giulia boasts an environment as unique as its wines. Characterized by a harmonious blend of Alpine cool and Mediterranean warmth, this region, located west of Colli Orientali Dei Friuli Picolit, benefits from the temperate breezes of the Adriatic Sea and the protective barrier of the Alps. The distinctive microclimates and varied soil compositions play a pivotal role in imparting the wines with their renowned complexity and character.
The viticultural heritage of Delle Venezie is rich, and while it showcases a commendable assortment of grape varieties, the most planted reveal the essence of the region's terroir. Among the reds, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, Merlot, and Pinot Nero flourish, producing wines that range from velvety and full-bodied to light and aromatic. On the white spectrum, the region is no less varied. Chardonnay, Friulano, and Pinot Grigio are often the stars, but they are complemented by aromatic varieties such as Gewürztraminer and Malvasia. Müller-Thurgau and Riesling contribute crisp, refreshing notes, while the local Ribolla Gialla and Picolit add depth with their indigenous charm. Sauvignon Blanc and Welschriesling further diversify the portfolio, making the Delle Venezie DOC a veritable mosaic of wine possibilities.
In Delle Venezie DOC, every bottle uncorks a story of its environment—a testimony to the age-old bond between the land of Friuli-Venezia Giulia and its grapevines.
