Tucked away in the heart of Italy, the region of Umbria is often overshadowed by its more renowned neighbors. Yet, among wine connoisseurs, the Todi DOC, located south of Colli Perugini and west of Rosso Orvietano, is whispered with reverence. A verdant gem, it is nestled amidst undulating hills, ancient olive groves, and medieval hamlets that seem untouched by time. Here, the soil and climate conspire to create a viticultural Eden, offering wines that are an authentic expression of the region’s rich heritage.
Todi's environment plays a pivotal role in its vineyards' success. The region enjoys a Mediterranean climate with distinct seasonal variations. Warm summers help ripen the grapes, while cooler winters ensure they rest and recover. The area's unique topography, characterized by its elevation and gentle slopes, grants the vineyards both optimal sun exposure and efficient drainage.
The predominant grape varieties cultivated here are a testament to the land's bounteous nature and the local farmers' dedication. Red wines from Todi are dominated by Merlot and Sangiovese. Merlot brings velvety tannins and plush dark fruit flavors, while Sangiovese contributes bright cherry notes and a hint of earthiness, embodying the rustic charm of Umbria. Among the whites, Grechetto stands out. This indigenous variety is treasured for its aromatic profile, ranging from fresh citrus to delicate floral nuances, capturing the spirit of the Italian countryside in each glass.
In the world of Italian wines, Todi DOC is a testament to the beauty that emerges when man, nature, and tradition converge. Those who venture to explore its offerings are rewarded with a sip of Umbria's soul.

GROWING DEGREE DAYS
The Todi DOC, located in the Umbria region, was created in 2010. It covers the municipalities of Massa Martana, Monte Castello Vibio, Collazzone and Todi, bordering the hills of Colli Martani to the east, and Corbara lake to the west.
In this DOC, winters are cool and summers are warm. The influence of the lake means that, especially at higher altitudes, there is a large temperature difference. This collaborates to produce very elegant white wines.
The vineyards are located at an altitude of between 250 and 600 m above sea level. The soils tend to have a medium texture with a clay tendency, and have a good amount of calcium carbonates and organic matter.

The addition of other authorized nonaromatic white grapes elevates its aromatic profile and adds depth.
