The Riesi DOC, which covers the municipalities of Butera and Mazzarino, is located in the southwest of the Sicilian wine region.
This region is dominated by the typical Sicilian Mediterranean climate, with mild, humid winters and hot, dry summers. Average temperatures are usually in the range of 12°C to 22°C, while average annual rainfall is 620 mm. An important climatic aspect for viticulture in the region is that night frosts usually occur between late winter and early spring.
The soils are of marl-calcareous origin and rich in skeleton, which together with the small concentration of clay and sandstone gives the vines an ideal structure for their development.
