about this subregion

Nestled in the northeastern corner of Italy, the Friuli Colli Orientali DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) stands as a testament to the harmonious marriage between nature and viticulture. Characterized by its unique terroir and microclimate, the region is blessed with a combination of beneficial winds, moderate temperatures, and rich, marly soils that lend a special quality to the wines produced here.

The region's diverse environment fosters the growth of a wide array of grape varieties. Among reds, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot hold prominent positions, lending depth and structure to wines. Pignolo and Schioppettino are stars in their own right, presenting unique flavors and aromas. Refosco and Tazzelenghe bring a blend of tradition and freshness, while Pinot Nero adds elegance.

On the white grape spectrum, Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio might be internationally recognized, but it's the indigenous varieties like Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, and Verduzzo that truly encapsulate the spirit of the region. Exquisite dessert wines are crafted from Picolit, and aromatic varietals like Gewürztraminer, Malvasia, and Riesling find a unique expression in this terroir. Lastly, Sauvignon Blanc thrives, capturing the quintessential mineral and fruity notes that the area's environment imparts.

Each grape variety, nurtured by the Friuli Colli Orientali's benevolent environment, contributes to a wine portfolio that is as diverse as it is memorable.
