GROWING DEGREE DAYS
The Lambrusco Salamino di Santa Croce, that is part of the Emilia-Romagna wine region, is the northernmost of the Modena Lambruscos, located around seven miles (11km) west of the village of Sorbara. Its production area extends over seven municipalities and parts of five others, all in the province of Modena.
The climate in the region is mainly continental. This means that it has hot summers, harsh winters and low precipitations.
The vineyards sit on ancient soils comprising sand, silt and clay. These sediments were left behind by the flooding of various rivers and streams that cross the Modena plains from south to north.
