The Aglianico del Vulture DOC is located in the northeastern part of Basilicata. It includes the municipalities of Atella, Barile, Ginestra, Melfi, Rapolla, Ripacandida, Rionero in Vulture, Maschito, Venosa, Ruvo del Monte, Rapolla and San Fele.
Aglianico del Vulture has a rather warm Mediterranean climate, which is ideal for the only variety that makes up the wines of this region, Aglianico. Summers are long, hot and dry, perfect for the Aglianico variety to develop its phenolic complexity. On the other hand, in cooler years, the harvest is extended until the first week of November, resulting in wines with more body, color and intense flavor.
The Aglianico del Vulture region is characterized by volcanic soils rich in minerals and nutrients. The terrain consists of dark, rocky lava and ash deposits, which contribute to the distinctive terroir of the area. These unique soils provide the Aglianico grape with the ideal conditions to thrive, imparting complexity and depth to the wines produced in this renowned Italian wine region.
