The Xanthi wine region experiences a climate that combines both Mediterranean and continental influences, resulting in significant temperature variations between seasons and day and night. The days can be hot, while the nights tend to be cooler. Despite these fluctuations, they remain within moderate limits, creating ideal conditions for the grapes to undergo an optimal ripening cycle and develop high levels of natural acidity. The Xanthi wine region experiences moderate rainfall, with a concentration of precipitation occurring between winter and spring.
There are 4 main soil types in Xanthi: alluvial soils, which have good fertility and drainage, loamy soils, which concentrate a good amount of nutrients, clay soils, which combine a good amount of nutrients with a high water retention capacity, and limestone soils, which have a neutral pH and can provide a distinctive mineral touch to the wines.
