The Xanthi wine region experiences moderate rainfall, with a concentration of precipitation occurring between winter and spring.
There are 4 main soil types in Xanthi: alluvial soils, which have good fertility and drainage, loamy soils, which concentrate a good amount of nutrients, clay soils, which combine a good amount of nutrients with a high water retention capacity, and limestone soils, which have a neutral pH and can provide a distinctive mineral touch to the wines.
